The Akron Beacon Journal has an article on the fiancee of a 2nd BCT soldier killed in action. Jennifer Smith's fiance, Pfc. Jason Sparks, of the 1-503rd, was killed near Fallujah on 9.8.2004. Ms. Smith (her rank was not given in the article) recently completed Army Military Police training, and is being deployed to Germany for a 2 to 3 year tour. She says that leaving the Army has never crossed her mind. "Jason joined the Army for me, he didn't quit. There's no way I cannot go."
